Build Green with Reclaimed and Salvaged Redwood from YRM
The use of recycled wood is ecologically sound and critical to sustaining the remaining stands of our old growth forests. All of YRM’s lumber products are reclaimed or salvaged which helps to reduce the pressure to harvest these old growth trees. In the absence of recycling, many of these materials might have gone into landfills or burn piles with the associated negative environmental impacts. YRM is a member of the US Green Building Council, which promotes the reduction of waste and the reuse and recycling of building products. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the USGBC’s benchmark for designing, building and operating green buildings. Using reclaimed wood can earn credits towards achieving LEED project certification.
Timbers cut from our salvaged redwood logs are available in such massive sizes and lengths that it can surprise you. This incredible antique redwood lumber is typically a dark rich color, with very few knots or markings of any kind. This material can be cut and finished for a clean, clear, unblemished high-quality finish unlike any new building product. We also have many curly-wood or burl cuts that have beautiful “live edges” for your unique architectural applications.
Our reclaimed redwood lumber has varying degrees of character marks from previous use and joinery, including bolt holes, checks, mortises, nail holes and notches giving the material an unrivaled beauty and quality not available from new lumber. This material was obtained from the careful dismantling of structures built around the turn of the last century. This recycled lumber can be purchased as-is with its worn and weathered finish or can be processed with a resawn, surfaced, or sanded finish according to your needs.
Old growth reclaimed and salvaged redwood is prized by builders for its stability and natural resistance to weather and pests which makes it highly desirable in exposed applications. These antique wood beams and timbers are extremely dense with a high ring count, and will grade with high structural values.
